What you need to know about IT hiring

The mid-year numbers have been gathered and collated, and the results are in! It seems the IT jobs growth in the first half of 2014 was great and the second half looks even better for skilled IT job seekers. That news coming from a recent TechServe Alliance report.
IT numbers are solid and getting better
According to the study, the IT sector has been outdoing almost every other industry across the nation for a substantial period. Mark Roberts, the CEO of TechServe Alliance, said signs continue to show strengthening.
"While the overall job market has only recently shown signs of robust growth, IT employment has been on an upward trajectory for some time. Growth in June IT employment remains strong; posting a growth rate virtually identical to the prior two months. On the engineering side, we continued to see an accelerating rate of growth with some of the best jobs numbers in recent memory," stated Roberts,
Positive hiring plans for IT
Out of 2300 IT executives interviewed by a national staffing operation, 14 percent said they would be adding additional staff during the second half of 2014. From that pool of those same executives, 76 percent said they would only hire for IT open positions,up from 67 percent at the first of the year. NetworkWorld reported that only one percent of the executives polled said they would be reducing their IT staff.
Salaries slowly crawl higher
Salaries in IT rose by one-third of a percent, according to Janco Associates, a Utah-based management consulting firm, bringing wages back to pre-recession levels. NetworkWorld added that the industry headcount is also seeing an uptick with 53 percent of companies surveyed by Computer Economics saying they will add more IT workers in the second half of the year.
While the jobs are there, finding the talent to fill those positions is a daunting task. NetworkWorld reported that the national staffing agencies poll showed 61 percent of all respondents have had difficulty in finding and attracting top talent. Applications development, security and networking are all areas where IT job candidates with the right skills and disciplines could easily land a job with top pay. The report concluded by saying 40 percent of all IT professionals queried said they were actively seeking a new job, proving the survey's results were right on target.
