Staffing Employment Up In September – 23,200 Jobs Added

While the recent Bureau of Labor and Statistics Report (BLS) for the month of September shows encouraging growth in the jobs market, there is still a shortage of specialized employees for many of the country’s largest employers.

US Bureau Of Labor Statistics“September’s employment numbers show an improvement from August and that is great news for those who work with staffing firms,” said DISYS President Maruf Ahmed. “But talent shortages are still a big problem for major employers – one that we’re working to help them solve.”

Data suggests, nationwide, there are nearly 6 million jobs open and employers seem to be unable to find qualified candidates due to skills gap challenges and talent shortages. Leaders in the staffing industry see this as a huge opportunity for organizations to focus on strategic talent acquisition, talent development, reskilling and lifelong learning.

At the end of 2015, Digital Intelligence Systems, LLC (DISYS) anticipated this shortfall due to keen observation in the staffing market and listening closely to its top clients. In additional BLS news, staffing employment in September 2016 increased 1.9% in comparison to September of last year and over the past 12 months, y/y growth has averaged 2.1% per month.

Total U.S. nonfarm payroll employment increased by 156,000 in September however, due to a decrease in revisions   employment gains for the months of July and August showed a decline than previously reported and job gains averaged 192,000 per month over the past three months. This is less than the average of 203,000 for the prior 12 months.

The unemployment rate saw little change and stands at 5.0%, comparatively to the rate of 4.9% in August.

Preliminary August data for search and placement services remained unchanged from July. Search and placement jobs totaled 315,800 in August, 4.6% higher than in the same month last year. Preliminary July employment data for search and placement services decreased 0.1% from June and totaled 315,400 in July, 4.8% higher than in the same month last year.
