Cloud growth fuels IT sector in Massachusetts and Atlanta

In the age of the digital workplace, tech workers with IT certifications are finding work across the country in a wide variety of sectors. The rise of cloud computing has created many different types of job opportunities that require technological proficiency and an innovative approach to business.

IT hires on the rise in Massachusetts
Employment in the IT industry in Massachusetts has increased by 8.5 percent over the past year, the Boston Globe reported. This figure easily topped the state’s overall job growth this past year at 1.8 percent.

“Clients really have to lock in the candidates quickly and make sure there’s no uncertainty,” Dave MacKeen, chief executive of the Eliassen Group, a staffing firm based in Wakefield, Massachusetts, told the news outlet. “Until they are on board, those recruiting efforts don’t stop.”

Recruiters told the Globe that programming continues to be a skill that is in high demand. There is also a strong interest across the state in those who can write code for the Internet of Things, as well as IT workers who are fluent in Java, Ruby on Rails and mobile app programming languages.

Sean McLoughlin, the head of the technology practice at HireMinds, a recruitment firm, said that about 35 percent of jobs he’s called on are related to design. This represents a significant upswing from just a few years ago, when that figure stood at less than 10 percent.

“Anyone who has the latest and greatest experience is going to be in high demand,” McLoughlin told the news outlet.

Atlanta tech business growing quickly
N3 LLC, a technology firm based in Atlanta, is working swiftly to keep pace with the rise of cloud computing in the business world. The firm plans to create 150 jobs in the immediate future and another 200 jobs over the next few years, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

The company functions as an outsourced sales force for software companies such as SAP, General Electric, Hitachi and Hewlett-Packard. It can also handle digital sales and marketing. The publication noted that N3 is hiring project managers, software engineers and business development specialists. The company has a revenue base of more than $40 million per year, but it expects to reach $100 million in the next three years.

“Enterprise software is migrating to the cloud at a blistering rate, globally, because the platforms offer strong accessibility, security, scalability and cost-saving advantages for both large and small businesses,” Jeff Laue, CEO of N3, told the publication.
