Abundance of IT Jobs Available

December 6, 2012

The high-tech sector is on the rise, with multiple reports finding IT jobs have increased in 2012. In some fields, such as web and technology development, there are more positions available than qualified candidates, according to Medill Reports.

For example, a separate report by American Banker said there are too many IT jobs at banks to fill, particularly because the required skill sets have changed rapidly in recent years.

“Over the course of time, all tech professionals need to focus in re-skilling themselves to adopt to new technologies,”  Wayne Busch, managing director of Accenture’s North American Banking Practice, told the news source. “This is evident in the technology in play in the banking industry.”

The article highlighted a Claymore Partners survey, which found that 55 percent IT departments at banks and financial firms plan to hire within the next year.

In addition to the evolving skill sets, changing compliance regulations are also playing a role. According to John Challenger, CEO of executive search firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas, the “new data [banks] are required to capture is only going to increase.” Challenger suggested there will be a rise in IT jobs to manage this influx of information.
