Staffing Firm Employment Sees Slight Growth in July
The Bureau of Labor and Statistics reports for July state temporary help employment showed little change from June to July.
Staffing firm employment was 4.5 percent higher than in July of 2014. And over the last 12 months, year-to-year staffing job growth averaged 5.7 percent.
The report, released earlier this month, says year-to-year, there were 5.4 percent more staffing employees in July than in the same month last year.
“Staffing firms across several sectors report continued tightening of the labor supply of qualified candidates,” said Richard Wahlquist, president and chief executive officer of the American Staffing Association. “At the same time, there has been an increase in temporary-to-hire conversions and demand for recruiting permanent candidates. This is positive for job seekers looking for a bridge to permanent work.”
Nonseasonally adjusted BLS data, which estimates the actual number of jobs in the economy, indicated temporary help decreased 1.1 percent from June to July.
CareerBuilder adds weight to these statistics, saying US employers added 215,000 jobs in July, which is a little lower than the 225,000 that economists were expecting.
Business Insider posts they believe the July numbers came in line with expectations – saying wages grew modestly in July, rising .2 percent over the prior month and 2.1 percent over the prior year.
“The big implications of (the report) is that another month of job gains over 200,000 could further convince markets that the Fed is ready to raise interest rates – it could do it as soon as September,” Business Insider stated.
In other BLS July data, the unemployment rate held at 5.3 percent in July and search and placement jobs totaled 322,700 in June – 8.7 percent higher than June of 2014.
