Staffing Employment Slightly Jumps in October
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) recently released the October report which shows staffing and temporary help slightly outpaced September by .02%.
This miniscule gain equates to about 6,400 additional jobs which has been added to the market and is 1.3% higher than last year. Also, over the last six months, staffing job growth has averaged 1.4% per month comparatively to 2% over the past 12 months.
Nonseasonally adjusted BLS data, which estimates the actual number of jobs in the economy, indicated temporary employment assistance increased by 46,300 – an increase of 1.5% from September to October. Year-to-year, there is 1.8% more staffing employees in October than in the same month last year.
“While these numbers may indicate the jobs growth has slowed or stalled, the staffing industry has stayed steady in meeting the growing demands of temporary and contract employees,” said Cydney Peyton, Associate Director of Marking at DISYS. “We believe employers will continue to lean on us to fill key positions within their organizations because of our strategic recruitment processes.”
October’s US nonfarm payroll employment, now seasonally adjusted, increased by 161,000 jobs, the BLS reported. Taking the seasonal adjustments to August and September combined, job gains averaged 176,000 per month over the past 3 months, which is less than the average of 208,000 for the prior 12 months.
The unemployment rate decreased slightly from 5% to 4.9%.
September’s seasonally adjusted employment rate increased by 1.2% from August and placement jobs totaled 320,200 in September; 5.9% higher than in the same month last year.
