High-tech Sector Employing People Coast to Coast
IT jobs are on the rise throughout the U.S., and states across the country are benefiting as a result. According to a recent study by the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, Washington, Massachusetts and Virginia reported the highest concentrations of high-tech employment in 2011."
The report found that in 2011, the average concentration of IT jobs in the United States was 5.6 percent. Washington, Massachusetts and Virginia achieved marks of 11.4, 9.4 and 9.3 percent, respectively. Maryland, Colorado and California also achieved a more than 8 percent high-tech jobs concentration rate.
Meanwhile, a recent survey by Robert Half Technology revealed that IT hiring will likely be on the rise in 2013. More than 90 percent of chief information officers (CIOs) said they plan to maintain or increase their current staffing levels over the next three months.
The report found that a net 18 percent of CIOs in the Mountain states plan to hire in the first quarter of 2013, followed by East North Central and West North Central states, where CIOs reported a 10 percent net increase.
