» Technician, Network Operations Center
The Technician NOC is responsible for monitoring switching networks from a centralized Network Operations Center (NOC) ensuring high availability and attainment of service levels.
Other responsibilities include:
- Effectively communicating and escalating alarms to ensure quick resolution
- Utilizing a network management system via computer terminals to detect and analyze alarms
- Completing trouble tickets to document equipment issues
- Reporting and escalating alarms and equipment outages to field personnel and management to restore equipment into service
- Answering incoming telephone calls to the NOC
- Performing remote testing of telecommunications facilities to isolate problems
- Maintaining NOC procedures and equipment records
- Providing network status reports to various departments
- Receiving telephone requests from various departments and vendors
- Providing technical assistance
Qualifications:
- Minimum Associates degree, 2 year technical degree, relevant military experience, equivalent special electronics training, or equivalent work experience is required. –
- Minimum 1 year experience plus electronics training in telecommunications is required. –
- Demonstrated knowledge of the following technologies and/or platforms: Basic voice switch/cells infrastructure fundamentals including: Lucent, Motorola, Nortel; CDMA data;
- Telecom experience including: T1, DACS, OMP;
- Computer support experience including: PC hardware configurations and troubleshooting.
- Basic knowledge of adjunct platforms, Octel / Glenayre, SS7, STPs, HLRs.
- Intermediate training in at least 3 of the following areas: data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, computer support, project management, and/or power.
- Demonstrated knowledge of all major cellular switching, sub-systems, and power systems is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of transmission facilities and facilities testing (DS0, DS1, DS3, and Microwave) is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the NOC operating environment is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Windows, Word, Outlook, and Notepad is required.
- Ability to gather information; extract relevant data; and apply knowledge to situation to solve problem; and make valid decision is required.
- Strong analytical skills are required.
- Ability to train others on technical and non-technical subjects is required.
- Demonstrated telephone, communications, and interpersonal skills are required.
- Ability to follow established guidelines, policies, and procedures is required.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure dynamic environment with constant priority changes is required.
- Commitment to quality and the motivation and ability to work well in a team environment is required.
- Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously is required.
- Ability to work extremely flexible hours including evenings, nights and weekends and support on-call duties and shift work is required.
- Occasional overnight traveling to schools and field for training is required.
